Unrelated Sisters: Truth & Grace Conversations's Podcast
Unrelated Sisters: Truth & Grace Conversation is a safe space for anyone who's ever felt overlooked, overwhelmed, or off-track. Through honest conversation, biblical truth, and sisterhood/brotherhood that goes beyond blood, we journey together—restored by grace, grounded in faith, and called for more. Where two faith-filled women dive into real-life topics with honesty, scripture, and sisterhood and brotherhood. It’s where truth speaks, grace covers, and everyone is welcomed just as we are.
John 1:16 (NIV)
“Out of His fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.”
We choose John 1:16 because it reflects the layers of grace we talk about—the redemptive grace, the sustaining grace, the identity-giving grace—and it speaks to the fullness of Christ that we prayer pours into our listeners.
Isaiah 40:31
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
We choose this verse because it emphasizes the strength, endurance, and renewal that come from placing trust in God, which perfectly aligns with resilience, faith, and empowerment within our podcast. It speaks to the idea that, even in challenging times, women can find strength and grace through their faith, soaring above life's difficulties with renewed strength.
“Rooted in truth. Covered in grace. Carried by faith.”

From the table… to the betrayal… to the cross… to the empty tomb—this episode reveals one life-changing truth:
👉 Jesus didn’t just die for the world. He chose you—personally.
If you’ve ever struggled with shame, doubt, or feeling not good enough… this conversation will meet you with truth, grace, and the love of Christ that never changes.
PRAYER
Father God,
Thank You for the cross.
Thank You for a love that we could never earn.
Thank You for loving us before we ever got it right…
and for choosing us even knowing every failure, every mistake, and every moment we would fall short.
Lord, help us truly receive that kind of love.
Not just hear it—but believe it deep in our hearts.
Break every mindset that tells us we have to perform for You,
or earn what You have already freely given.
Replace striving with surrender…
and fear with the truth of who we are in You.
Remind us daily that we are already chosen,
fully forgiven,
and deeply loved.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Lord, we love you today. And we just thank you for this opportunity again to be here, God. And we're just so grateful for everything that you're doing in our lives, Lord. We just pray that you would just speak through us, Lord, and let our words just penetrate the heart of every believer today, Lord, and non-believer. In Jesus' name, amen.
SPEAKER_00Amen. Hey, sisters, and welcome back to Unrelated Sisters Truth and Grace Conversation. And I'm Shannon. I'm Deb. And today we're stepping into something that's honestly the foundation of everything we believe. Um we're talking about Easter, but we're also talking about something deeply kind of personal. What if Jesus knew every mistake you ever made and he still chose the cross?
SPEAKER_01That's deep.
SPEAKER_00You know, the truth that Jesus knew everything we were gonna do, but he still chose a cross. Like that was a decision.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we make decisions every day. But we do we make those kind of decisions.
SPEAKER_01No, it's hard.
SPEAKER_00You know. So we can't I came across the song a few weeks ago and it's called I Do I Do It Again by Andrew Rip. And the first time that I heard it, I thought, you know, that's that's a good song. That that that explains, you know, a parent and a child, and it explains, you know, the relationship that you kind of want. But then a few days later it hit me, no, that is what God did for us. Because from the perspective of the songwriter, he was taught, he was kind of doing like from God's perspective or from Jesus' perspective in the song. And uh, you know, and he wrote it in it, and it says, even knowing the pain, I'd still choose you.
SPEAKER_01That's good.
SPEAKER_00And you know, so when I started when I started thinking about what episode we were gonna do today, I was, you know, I can't I that song's been on repeat. Like it's been on repeat every since for two weeks. It gives me chills every time I look at that. Um so definitely go look it up if you've never heard it. I Do It Again by Angie Rip. Um, but I got to thinking about Easter, and then I heard I heard a preacher the other day say, you know, we talk about Good Friday and we talk about Sunday, but we don't talk about Saturday and the silence in between. And I and it hit me a lot of our, I feel like a lot of our audience is in between. Yeah. They're on Saturday. A lot of the people that listen to us, you know, they listen to us because we've come from Good Friday. We found Sunday, right? We've we've surpassed the f the Saturday, and I feel like we skipped that part, right?
SPEAKER_01We skipped that part. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The waiting, the hard parts of it, right?
SPEAKER_01The silence, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So when you connect it with Easter, the song changes everything because this isn't just a story, it's a decision that Jesus made about each and every one of us. In Luke 22, 19 through 21, it talks about the table. And he took bread, gave thanks, and broke it, and he gave it to them, saying, This is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after the supper, he took the cup. This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.
SPEAKER_01Well, and in John 13, 21 through 27 it says, Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me. Jesus answered, It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread. Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas. So he knew.
SPEAKER_00He knew he knew he was gonna betray him. He knew he knew exactly what Judas was gonna do, and yet he still brought him to the table.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, before all that he knew.
SPEAKER_00He knew.
SPEAKER_01You know, uh what he did with it after he knew.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Like that's grace.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's just grace, right? That's grace within itself, you know, and uh I feel like he's but he served it. Yeah, right? He didn't just invite him to the table, he broke the bread, he dipped the bread in the olive oil, and he gave it to him.
SPEAKER_01You still let him sit there.
SPEAKER_00It'd still let him be there. How hard is that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but we don't do that. When I know for me, when somebody makes me mad uh because I've not arrived there yet. I'm trying. But you know, I you know, when somebody betrays me or hurts me or or somebody in my family or something, I it I'm not gonna I'm just gonna be honest. I'm not, you know, I'm not probably gonna invite him to my table. You know what I mean? Unless the Lord just s makes me, which I know he wants us to, but just to think of that, how he just did it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he did it.
SPEAKER_01No, he chose to.
SPEAKER_00He chose to.
SPEAKER_01He chose it. You know, and trying to get there, Lord.
SPEAKER_00And and in the song, you know, the song says, I'd do it again. That's a kind of love. Yeah, right? That's not it's not surprised, it's not conditional. That's a kind of love. That's a kind of love that if you feel unworthy today, or if you don't feel enough today, that's the kind of love that you have. All you have to do is say, I love you. And he will love you right back.
SPEAKER_01You know, even if you don't say I love you, he's too gonna love you. You know, I I don't think for two uh it's so hard sometimes to we say we love people and we say we would do these things for them. But it a lot of times our love's conditional.
SPEAKER_00It is very conditional.
SPEAKER_01Not unconditional. It's like what they can do for me or what it's gonna benefit from me or what it's gonna uh and and we say it's not like that, but we're here. It is. Yeah. But his was that his was no strings attached, chosen not expecting anything in return. It was chosen love.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. He chose to love us so good before we were ever here. You know, and if we're honest, we've all sat at his table knowing we weren't about to get it right. Yeah, you know, um, I remember many times in the past, you know, uh pretending, you know, we've talked a lot about pretending lately, and we've talked a lot about performing for God. And you know it's okay. Because we know he knew we weren't gonna do it right today. And he still loves us, and he still loves us, right? He still tells us to come anyway. Yeah. Still saves us a seat. He still saves us a seat. He's saving you a seat. Yes. So, um, so let's kind of deep dive into Easter a little bit. Let's talk about Good Friday and what Good Friday means.
SPEAKER_01In Isaiah 53, 5 it says, But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities, and the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
SPEAKER_00Right? Wow. So Luke 23, 33 through 34. When they came to the place called the school, they crucified him. Jesus said, Now this is important, y'all. Listen, Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.
SPEAKER_01Wow. And then Jesus said in John 19, 30, it is finished. It is finished. It's it.
SPEAKER_00So, you know, gr Good Friday, when you think about Good Friday, because you know, that's the day they crucified Jesus. And uh I was at work yesterday morning, so at sunrise I stopped what I was doing, you know, and I prayed. And then at sunset last night, I stopped again and prayed. Um, I believe in my head, this is not historical fact, this is not Bible fact. In my head, and this is mine, I believe that he carried the cross starting at sunrise and he carried it all day long up the hill, struggling. Not, you know, getting beat all the way, getting laughed at, getting spit on all the way. And I believe at sunset's when they hung him on the cross right before sunset. And then as the sun went down, is when he said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And then he closed his eyes. And I believe that's exactly in my heart, that's exactly how peaceful at the end of it his death was. I just, I, I just, that's just in it. Like I said, there's no historical fact, there's no Bible. That's just how I see, how I see it from the grace of God that God has given me and the grace that He shows me. I feel like the people that were there, you know, when you see someone take their last breath, it is very peaceful.
SPEAKER_01It is.
SPEAKER_00It's very peaceful. Yeah, right. So on Good Friday, you know, it we don't think it looks good, right? There's a lot of pain, there's betrayal, there's loss.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00There's, you know, the people, you know, the people that were watching him die, the people that followed him.
SPEAKER_01His mom. Yeah. Can you imagine?
SPEAKER_00I know, being at the foot crying the whole time. Yeah, right. Uh, but the do the crucifixion was designed to be humiliating, right? Like it wasn't designed to it wasn't designed to be a comfortable death. Yeah. It was designed to break you as a human.
SPEAKER_01To torture you.
SPEAKER_00To torture you, right.
SPEAKER_01And Jesus felt all of it, every nail, every breath, every moment.
SPEAKER_00I mean, they stuck him with a sword in his side, and thank God I ain't never had that experience. Yeah. But you know, I've cut myself several times. I'm not the best with a knife in the kitchen, right? My husband sometimes just like, how'd you do that? I was like, I don't know, my finger got in the way.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right? That hurts.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I can only be imagined how it would feel being you know, stuck. And even though in the middle of all of it, in the middle of all that was going on, he asked God to forgive us. Yeah. Forgive me. I mean, that's not a reaction. That's intentional.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, and we talk about intentional love. And we talk about being intentional in our families' lives, and we talk about being intentional in God's presence.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But why is it so hard for us?
SPEAKER_01You know, and that song that says there's no distance too far and no pain too great. No distance too far, no matter how far you ran, no matter what you done, no matter how broken you are. You don't have to get it all together to come to him. He loves you just right in your mess. Yeah. Right in your destruction.
SPEAKER_00Right where you are. And he knew exactly what it was going to cost. And yet he still chose to do it. I don't know that I could.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I love my kid. And I would, I would, I would go be, you know, I would go above him in all. And I probably would die for my son. You know, he was the first human man that I ever loved. And he was the first human man that ever loved me back unconditionally, right? And and that was, you know, that was a big part of my past. But to choose it for everybody else, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_01That means that his love isn't based on our behavior or perfection.
SPEAKER_00Or all the things that we think we have to do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I know, right? It's just it amazes me. Now let's talk about Holy Saturday. You know, Holy Saturday, there's a silence there.
SPEAKER_01And in Matthew 27, 59 through 60, and then 65 through and 66, says Joseph took the body, placed it in his own new tomb, and Pilate said, Take a guard, make the tomb as secure as you know how.
SPEAKER_00Then Saturday came.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And nothing happens. Or at least it feels like nothing's happening.
SPEAKER_00Right? So the tomb was really the tomb was sealed. You know, the best way they knew how back then. They posted a guard outside, and everything looks like it was final. Jesus was dead. Right? He'd been buried. We mourned over him. We're we're we're the it's the day after, you know, it's the day of the funeral. You know, holy s you know, I feel like it's the day of the funeral. I feel like, you know, they did their little rituals or whatever, you know, they wrapped him in the cloth and they did all the all the things that they do. And as humans, when we do that, it's final. Right? They're gone. And we have to learn to live with that, we have to learn to accept that.
SPEAKER_01Just like in our life when we're going through things and the betrayals, the the pain, and you think you're to the end, and you don't hear nothing, you don't see nothing, God's saying it's not over yet. It's not over. And just because it looks finished didn't mean God was done.
SPEAKER_00And silence doesn't mean absence. That's right. Just because he's standing next to you not saying anything, and you just asked me about fishing, and I was like, I can't, right? Because you have to be silent and you have to be patient and you have to do all the things. That's perfect. Silence doesn't mean he's absent.
SPEAKER_01You know, some of you are in a Saturday right now. You're waiting, wandering, praying.
SPEAKER_00You know, and this is just a reminder. God is still working. Yeah, and all that. If you think about prayer, and you think about we pray for things that we want, or we things that we think we need. And they don't happen right away. I mean, I prayed for my daddy for years. I can imagine how much your mama prayed for you.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right? Um, but there would be times I'd let it go. Just stop praying, you know, and then something would happen and I'd start praying again. But in those moments where I let go, God didn't stop. No, right? Like he didn't he didn't just quit and be like, oh well Shannon's done with her dad, or Alice is done with Deb. Because they've quit praying.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He didn't quit.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Not one time.
SPEAKER_01Not one time.
SPEAKER_00And then we come to Sunday. Yes. You know, and Sunday, we call that resurrection Sunday. Yep. And he's still choosing you. In Matthew 28, 5 through 6, it says, Do not be afraid. He is not here. He is risen just as he said he would.
SPEAKER_01In Romans 5.8 it says, but God demonstrates his own love for us in this, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
SPEAKER_00And then in John 15 13, the Bible says, Greater love has no one than this.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00To de To lay down one's life for one's friend.
SPEAKER_01And then Sunday comes.
SPEAKER_00And the tomb is empty.
SPEAKER_01The tomb is empty. Resurrection proves something. He didn't just die for you, he defeated death for you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And in this moment, while we're talking about Easter and we're talking about resurrection, and we're talking about what happens on Resurrection Sunday. Uh I want to give Deb a minute. Because today she celebrates five years. Yay, five years. She celebrates five years free of all of it. Yep. Of alcohol, not just drugs, but of alcohol, of giving her life to Jesus. She is on her resurrection Sunday.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So my five years came April the 4th, 2021, and it happened to be on Easter on Resurrection Sunday. Um, how ironic. And I remember thinking, am I gonna I'm gonna do this, Lord? I'm gonna I'm gonna try this. You're gonna have to, there's some things in my life that's gonna have to be resurrected myself. Worth my confidence. There's some things, there's some that things in my life that's dead that I need you to resurrect in my life for me to come up out of this. And so um I truly surrendered my life to God that day and allowed him to bring me back to life. I was dead. Right. I was dead. Oh yeah. I I felt like I I mean I well, you know, you just feel hopeless and you feel like um I've done it, you know, I messed up again, you know, my family's upset with me. But that's the neat thing about God. You can di I've disappointed my family, and Shannon, I'm sure you feel the same way. Yeah, you know, you've just been it felt like it was just disappointment after disappointment, and then you would I would do good and then it would be disappointment again. But the good thing about God, he loved me through it all. And I know my parents loved me through all of it, but I know there were times they they were shaking their head and thinking, God, is she gonna ever get it together? Right. But you know what? God continued to chase after me. He and and I'm so grateful that um I can sit here today and say that I have confidence today, I have freedom today. Yep. Um I have a sound mind most days, you know.
SPEAKER_00And I say that they don't have anything to do with the cuts.
SPEAKER_01No, no, they really don't. But I'm grateful. I'm I'm thankful that he didn't leave me where I was at. In my brokenness and in my despair, that he resurrected me and gave me a new life.
SPEAKER_00So, you know, as the as Deb's telling our story, we didn't have it all together when we came adult. No, I was a mess. We were we were neither one of us had it all together. But he loved us while we're still trying to figure it out. Yeah. I am not the perfect Christian, I am not the perfect daughter by any means to God, but he still loves me, even on the days that I mess up. You know, he didn't go to the cross hoping you'd change, he went knowing you wouldn't. And loving you anyway.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's powerful.
SPEAKER_00He knew. He knew. He knew that me and dad were gonna come full circle.
SPEAKER_01So when we hear I do it again, that's just not a lyric.
SPEAKER_00It's the gospel.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's the truth. From the table to betrayal to the cross to the silence to the resurrection.
SPEAKER_00He chose you the whole way through.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And if you've been feeling unworthy or too foregone or not enough, because we felt those feelings before. But guess what?
SPEAKER_00Let this settle deep. You were worth it to him.
SPEAKER_01That's right.
SPEAKER_00And you're worth it to us.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Because he's worthy.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Not because anything we did, but because he's worthy.
SPEAKER_00Yes, he is worthy of all your love and your all your all your trouble. And he knows where you're at. He knows where your heart is, he knows where your mind is. He knows your trauma. He knows what you're gonna do before you know what you're gonna do. And yet he chose for everyone to hang on a cross and to be mocked and laughed at, and to be tortured and to die for us so that we could live and have the Holy Spirit with us every day as we walk. That's good stuff, dear Father God. Thank you for the cross. Thank you for loving us before we ever got it off. Yes. Thank you that even knowing everything about us, you still chose us. Yes. Help us to receive that love. Break every lie that says we are we have to earn what you already gave us. Love isn't an urn. Love has been given. Yes. Remind us daily that we are chosen, we are forgiven, and we are deeply loved by you. Yes. Not not today, not tomorrow, not just because it's Easter, Lord Jesus, but remind the people of the world that you love us. And as your disciples, give us the strength and the courage to speak openly and to speak freely to the ones around us and not to give up one opportunity, Lord Jesus, to talk about you, to tell our story, to give someone a glimpse of hope. Yes. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Amen and amen. If this episode spoke to you, share it with someone who needs this reminder.
SPEAKER_00Because someone out there is still trying to earn a love that's already been given to us. Yes. So for next time, Friday proved his love.
SPEAKER_01Saturday tested our faith. And Sunday revealed the truth. He chose us all along. And he'd do it again.
SPEAKER_00With love.
SPEAKER_01With love.
SPEAKER_00We'll see you next week.
SPEAKER_01Bye bye.
